General member

What it means

Anyone can be a general member, just show up to SEAM events! There's no application process; membership is open to all. We host monthly social events geared towards anyone at McGill. Organizers are always around to chat and help, and there's an organized activity each time.

Subcommittees

Projects Subcommittees

Each September we recruit volunteers for multiple project-specific subcommittees. This year's subcommittees include:

  • Recycling Projects Subcommittee

    Chaired by: VP Projects and Projects Coordinator

    This subcommittee focuses on:

    • Facilitating the recycling of 3D-printing filament waste created by design teams and maker spaces on campus.
    • Creating a space at McGill for this recycling to take place.
    • Collaborating with external groups that already recycle 3D filament waste.
    • Creating an engineering drive that recycles and redistributes lab coats, lab goggles, calculators, and more from older students to newer students.
  • SustainaVision Projects Subcommittee

    Chaired by: VP Projects and Projects Coordinator

    This subcommittee focuses on:

    • Planning an annual case competition to promote sustainable initiatives on campus.
    • Work with the Sustainable Projects Fund.
    • Invite McGill professors and/or industry leaders to lead the competition.
    • Support the winners in bringing their design to life.
Consulting Subcommittee

Chaired by: VP Consulting and Consulting Coordinator

This subcommittee is composed of sustainability, events, or equity representatives from each departmental council, as well as the JC SEAM Rep. Recruitment is done through the departments and takes place in April and September based on the department.

External Subcommittee

Chaired by: VP External and External Coordinator

This subcommittee helps organize and run the external portfolio's largest events, like speed networking. It recruits in Fall semester, and focuses principally on fostering connections with SEAM’s industry partners

Executive Team

Coordinators

Coordinator roles are a great way to start getting involved. You’ll be paired with a VP to work on portfolio initiatives—planning panels, socials, collaborations, and more.

Each coordinator chooses at least one initiative / project / event to lead (with support from the Co-Chairs and VPs). Recruitment is every September. No prior experience required.

VPs and Directors

VPs and Directors spearhead SEAM's operations. VPs lead portfolios and often mentor a coordinator; Directors run a focused area with day-to-day autonomy.

Recruitment occurs between April and May for the next academic year. No prior experience required.

Co-Chairs

Co-Chairs manage the committee as a whole and support the executive team across portfolios.

Recruitment takes place each March. Experience is valued.

Note: every Winter we may run a smaller recruitment for roles that open up (e.g., graduation or exchanges).
